Why Do I Get Bloodshot Eyes?

Sharon Kleyne Answers Why We Get Bloodshot Eyes. Water Life Science® Advocate Sharon Kleyne Solves Bloodshot Eyes.

Sharon Kleyne, founder of Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science®, who has earned an international reputation as the global expert on dehydration of the eyes and skin due to excessive evaporation of the body’s water vapor, recently tackled a question she hears all the time: “Why do I get bloodshot eyes?”

“If,” says Kleyne, “your eyes are itching, blurring or burning, you are suffering with dry eye symptoms. These symptoms occur,” she continues, “when the conjunctiva, the blood vessels on the eye’s surface get irritated. This causes them to become enlarged and dilated.”

Sharon Kleyne explains that the causes of these symptoms are many. Allergens can set them off and environmental irritant can trigger them, too. These triggers include pollen, wind, dust, pet dander, dry air and even sunlight. Not getting enough sleep can also be a red eye trigger. Then there are inflammations and eye infections that occur—all leading to red, or bloodshot, eyes.

“If your eyes are irritated,” says Kleyne, “if you’ve been indoors too long with forced air heat or air conditioning, if you’ve been sitting too long in front of a computer or TV screen and have eyestrain, headache and/or a ‘grainy’ sensation, if you drive too long with insufficient breaks, then odds are you’ve got a nice pair of bloodshot eyes. “

Sharon Kleyne explains the process of eyes turning bloodshot because of an over-concentration of salt (electrolyte) due to moisture (water) loss in the tear film’s aqueous layer (the tear film is naturally 99 percent water). This moisture loss is a result of dehydration caused by evaporation of the tear film’s water vapor. When moisture is depleted, electrolyte and other substances become over-concentrated and discomfort results. But when the electrolyte is properly diluted, discomfort disappears.”

According to Sharon Kleyne, this is why saline solutions and popular eye drops do not really bring lasting relief to bloodshot eyes. These products only trap moisture, they do not supplement or replenish it. Kleyne, America’s leading water educator, researcher and the host of the nationally syndicated radio program, The Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water, Global Climate Change and Your Health on Voice America says, “for dusty, dry eyes, I recommend my research center’s signature product, Natures Tears® EyeMist®. It’s the only product on the market that effectively supplements the eye’s tear film.”

“In 2002,” Kleyne continues, “Bio-Logic Aqua® Research Water Life Science® developed a system that emulates the air’s natural humidity by applying moisture as an ultra-fine, pH-balanced (7.0) water mist. With Natures Tears® EyeMist®, tired and irritated eyes are supplemented with all natural, pH-balanced (6.49), Trade Secret tissue culture grade water that is ideal for tear film penetration. That’s exactly what bloodshot eyes need. Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® supplements the tear lens.” Applying Nature’s Tears® EyeMist® is easy and fun! You apply it with a personal hand-held humidifying device emitting a pure, pH balanced, 100% Trade Secret tissue culture grade water in a patented micron mist.
